My Love Affair with the Brain: The Life and Science of Dr. Marian Diamond, CABinett Stuz2, ETH center, Freitag, 08. März 2019

"My Love Affair with the Brain" is a documentary about the life and science of Dr. Marian Diamond (1926 – 2017), a pioneering scientist and educator, considered one of the founders of modern neuroscience. Among others, her research provided the first evidence of neuroplasticity –the ability of the brain to change–, and her famous studies on the brain of Albert Einstein revealed a unique role for glial cells in the brain, fostering the ongoing scientific research. Dr. Marian Diamond entered academia when there were hardly any women in STEM. She was the first female graduate student in the department of anatomy of the University of California, Berkeley, where she later became a full professor.

The film was produced and directed by Catherine Ryan and Gary Weimberg of Luna Productions, it was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Science and Technology Documentary (2018, National News and Documentary Emmy Awards), won the PRIX ADAV for Best Educational film of the year at Pariscience Festival International du Film Scientifque, and received the Kavli-AAAS Science Journalism Gold Award for best in-depth science documentary of 2017.
